Bird With No Legs

My wings are spread but they send the sunlight a quiver, muscle shiver.
Another windless day and I’m searching for a hint of a jet stream
Carry me on

Nothing lifts so I struggle to flap one more time
Ground getting closer
It’s no longer racing heat or rushing fire I feel
There’s just nothing left to burn
The brain wills but the body does not respond
Fly wings fly
Fly, or you’re gonna die

Light bones built for flight
destined to crack so easy against unforgiving earth

with no legs to land on I must ride the sky
sleep on the thin air and cold breeze up high

And now there’s nothing to fill my feathers
To loft me up and the world grows
The end of dreaming flipping singing flight

Orpheus descending
